I don't think Airpods Pro 2 are certified as industrial hearing protection, so the idea they would be issued to factory employees (a legal requirement) instead of much cheaper earplugs and muffs is incorrect.

FYI the Airpods Pro 2 have been out for a while already. The hearing aid functionality is just a software update.
The Airpods Pro 2 are also different from the Airpods, which are up to v4 now I think. The article uses them interchangeably but they aren't the same.
